Booking a trip used to mean ten tabs: one for flights, one for the points portal, one for hotels, all of them out of date the moment you looked away. AI Mode does that chasing in one place, in plain English, for free. Here is the play, move by move, and the requests that run it.
Google AI Mode can watch a flight price for you, tell you what a flight costs in your points, and shortlist hotels to your budget, all inside normal Google Search.
The play, move by move
- Describe the trip out loud, with your real constraints. Say "London to Lisbon, 5 to 9 March, two of us, nonstop, nothing landing after 11pm" rather than picking from menus, because the more honest limits you give it, the fewer useless options come back.
- Set a price watch on that exact route. Add "track these flight prices for me" and confirm when it asks, because AI Mode then emails you when the fare moves, so you stop refreshing and just wait for the nudge.
- Ask for flexible dates before you lock the watch. Try "show me the five cheapest date pairs that month, then track the cheapest one", because pinning your alert to one fixed pair of dates means watching a price that was never the good one.
- Price the flight in your points. Ask "how many miles for this flight, plus the cash price and the taxes on the award", because seeing both numbers side by side is the only way to tell whether the points are worth spending or saving.
- Shortlist a hotel to your budget. Give it your dates, your ceiling per night, your neighbourhood and the one amenity you actually need, because a tight brief returns a short real list with review scores instead of a wall of sponsored rooms.
The AI Mode travel requests
Paste one at a time and fill in the brackets. Vague questions get a vague list, so these are written the way AI Mode answers best.
FLIGHT SEARCH AND PRICE WATCH I want to fly from [HOME AIRPORT] to [DESTINATION] leaving [DATE] and returning [DATE], for [N] people. Nonstop preferred, no red-eyes, nothing landing after 11pm. Show me the best options with current prices, then track these flight prices for me. FLEXIBLE DATES (where the real saving hides) I want to fly from [HOME AIRPORT] to [DESTINATION] for [N] nights sometime in [MONTH]. Show me the five cheapest date pairs, then track the cheapest one for me. POINTS OR CASH ON A FLIGHT How many [AIRLINE] miles would it take to fly from [HOME AIRPORT] to [DESTINATION] on [DATE]? Show me the cash price for that same flight and the taxes and fees I would still pay on the award ticket. If you cannot find a figure, say "not listed" rather than guessing. THE HOTEL BRIEF Find me a hotel in [CITY] for [DATES], [N] adults, under [MAX] a night. Must have: [free parking / a real gym / walkable to X / breakfast]. Show me the guest review scores and tell me what people actually complain about in the reviews.
To decide points or cash yourself, take the cash price, subtract the taxes you would still pay on the award, divide by the number of miles, and compare it to what those miles are usually worth in your programme. Above the usual value, the points are a good deal. Below it, pay cash and keep them.
Where the line is
- The honest bit: AI Mode can be wrong on a live fare or an award price, and it does not book the flight for you, it hands you off to the airline. On hotels, Google is not the seller either, so the cancellation policy, the refund and any resort fee belong to the hotel or booking site, not Google.
- Confirm the total with taxes and the cancellation terms on the airline or hotel's own page before you pay, and screenshot the confirmation.
Set a watch on one real trip
You do not need to plan the whole thing today. Paste the first request for a trip you are already thinking about, add "track these flight prices for me", and let the email come to you. Two minutes, and Google watches the fare while you get on with your day.
Planning a bigger trip next? Pair this with the hotel brief above and let AI Mode build the shortlist while the flight watch runs.
